If you follow me on social media and/or receive my emails, then you've likely already heard the big news. But in case you missed it or are new to The Food Allergy Counselor and my work in the community, then here it is....

My debut book, May Contain Anxiety: Managing the Overwhelm of Parenting Children with Food Allergies will be out on September 30th, 2025!

Published by the prestigious Johns Hopkins University Press, May Contain Anxiety is an evidence-based guide to help parents learn how to develop a workable balance between their food allergy-related fear and quality of life.

It incorporates up-to-date food allergy research and concepts from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), an empirically-based therapy that aims to help people approach uncomfortable thoughts and feelings with psychological flexibility rather than repeatedly respond to them in ways that aren't helpful.

What's more, it has been peer-reviewed and read by a handful of top allergists and psychologists in the field, all of whom gave it very favorable reviews!

Enriched with relatable stories, real-world examples, and exercises designed to empower both you and your family, this essential guide provides:

• Insight into the emotional and psychological challenges of allergy parenting, including managing anxiety, dealing with uncertainty, and navigating developmental changes.

• Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) strategies for accepting discomfort, decreasing overwhelm, and mindfully parenting based on values, not anxiety.

• Evidence-based techniques to address fear-driven thoughts and to cultivate awareness to manage allergy-related anxiety effectively.

• Guidance on how to teach children age-appropriate skills to safely and responsibly manage their allergies.

• Tips for establishing shared parenting goals and clear communication between co-parents to create consistent and effective allergy management routines.

• Mindfulness-based exercises designed to support the whole family in navigating the emotional complexities of allergy management together.

• Step-by-step strategies for creating a personalized mindful allergy parenting plan.

Wondering if it will be available in other countries?

Yes - May Contain Anxiety will be available across the world in English! In fact, it's already listed on most Amazon and bookstores websites in Canada, UK, Australia, and many other countries. And the hope is that eventually it will be available in translated versions, too.

Wondering if this book is only for parents?

Even though the book is written for parents, the core of the guidance offered within it can be useful even for those managing their own food allergies and allergic conditions. Among other things, I cover topics such as navigating food allergy-related mindsets, understanding and approaching anxiety differently, and learning how to shift perspectives. Non-parents can apply the content to their own lives, and even use it to become a support for themselves as they navigate life with food allergies. Additionally, healthcare and mental health practitioners who have read advanced copies say that this book will be useful for them and their patients, too!

Wondering if this book is only for parents of kids with food allergies?

While lots of the content within the book is focused on food allergies and a bit on asthma, parents of children with other allergic conditions will likely find this book useful, too!

So there you have it - my big, fun news!

I can't wait for you all to read May Contain Anxiety. My hope is that you feel seen, but also empowered to mindfully manage food allergy anxiety and balance allergy safety with living fully!
